EID UL ADHA |
Why MUSLIMS celebrate EID UL ADHA?
Eid ul Adha commemorates Prophet Ibrahim's (Abraham's) willingness to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God. According to legend, Allah (God) commanded Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his beloved son, Ismail (Ishmael).
As Ibrahim was about to carry out the command, Allah subhanu tala intervened and replaced him with a ram, indicating that his obedience and faith had been accepted.
Eid ul Adha serves as a reminder of the value of faith, devotion, and sacrifice. It represents Ibrahim's unwavering faith in God and serves as a reminder to Muslims to submit to God's will in all aspects of life.
A Grand Celebration
During Eid ul Adha, Muslims all over the world perform a special prayer known as the Eid prayer, as well as charitable and goodwill acts. In addition, an animal, usually a goat, sheep, cow, or camel, is sacrificed to commemorate Ibrahim's sacrifice. The sacrificed animal's meat is then divided into three portions: one for the individual/family, one for relatives and friends, and one for those in need.
Eid ul Adha encourages unity, generosity, and empathy for others, emphasizing the importance of sharing blessings and caring for those in need. It is a time for Muslims to gather, strengthen community bonds, and ponder the values of sacrifice and gratitude.
